I've been wanting to create website to display my projects for a while now. Sometimes the fun things I create gets lost, or taken apart. This is my way of keep all my project a memory of how far I've come.
This is it. On this website I can tell others about my likes and dislikes. Hobbies, who I am! I can keep track of my projects hear through project pages like this. And showing people what i'm up to now.
I used mostly HTML and CSS to build this with a bit of Java script. For visuals, I used blender to 3D model the navigation icon on the home screen, then turned them into transparent pngs.
The picture on the left shows a planning sheet I before I started coding.
Something that really helped me was w3schools. There are a lot of different html techniques I saw on there that was incorprated onto my site.
I spent a long time getting the "island navigation" to work, and displaying the image buttons correctly on all devices and aspect ratios.
To fix this I adjusted the postions back and forth, changing the margin and padding on the elements, and instead of using a static # of px for the padding/ margin, I used a percentage.
Simalarly, I also had issues getting the sizing right for text sizes.
I had to learn how to work with sizing the elements correctly so it looks right on different devices. This meant instead of using something like "20px" for distance and sizing. I used a percentage.
Ex: max-width: 70%;
70% percent means the box that this element is in weather it's a "div" or just the text on it's own. The max-width will be 70% percent of that.
